Matthew 25:35-40 (CEV)
35When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me, 36and when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear. When I was sick, you took care of me, and when I was in jail, you visited me." 37Then the ones who pleased the Lord will ask, "When did we give you something to eat or drink? 38When did we welcome you as a stranger or give you clothes to wear 39or visit you while you were sick or in jail?" 40The king will answer, "Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me."
Sometimes it is hard to show God that we love him. We might worship and sing to him; we might pray and say it verbally; but how do we actually show it? Jesus gives a really practical teaching to his followers, saying, “If you are loving, kind, caring and giving to others, then that is the same as doing those things for me.”
A few times a year, a group of teenagers from my local church, Thrive Community, go into a Sydney nursing home to sing, talk and even pray for the elderly. These older folks rarely get visitors and are forgotten by society. Many are sick and in their last months of life. Imagine how it impacts them when teens take time to love them and show them that they are valuable! Imagine their faces when the singing starts or a young one prays for them. This is life at it’s best – a true sign of loving Jesus.
Imagine the impact if youth ministries everywhere were to do similar things!!??
